How books save my sanity - what's on your reading list?

We got our power back, yayayayaya!

we came home last night, and oh how I've missed my home.
and then I woke up this morning and my house is a disaster... our fridge is completely empty...
there are mounds of laundry to do....
the husband is now packing up to leave for a few days for a convention.....
I was feeling a little stressed... so to help me chill out, this morning I went onto Goodreads to look at next year's releases and I made a list of books I want to read... yay, I feel better!

so I have a list, but it's all sequels to amazing books I read this past year...

"Demon Eyes" by Scott Tracey
"Embers and Echoes" by Karsten Knight
"A Million Suns" by Beth Revis

"Hallowed" by Cynthia Hand

"Pandemonium" by Lauren Oliver

"Clockwork Princess" by Cassandra Clare

"Insurgent" by Veronica Roth

"Bitter Blue" by Kristen Cashore

"The Soul" by Stephanie Meyer ..... helloo!! was I the only one that didn't know there was a sequel?? I really like The Host

this is my list so far.... so.... I need your help! tell me which books you are excited about for 2012!

  1. I'm so rubbish at this, I don't know what's coming out when. Finances mean I have to rely on my library, so it could be 2013 before I get to any of these :-)

  2. I'm on Good Reads, too! The top 5 fiction books I want to read are:

On a Cold Winter's Night (Highland Press, 2009) - my short story's included, but I haven't read the other ones in the book yet!

Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Annie Barrows - I've heard a lot of good things about this work of literary fiction

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead

The Glory Wind by Valerie Sherrard - she's Canadian and led a children's writing workshop I participated in a few years ago

The Girl in the Box by Sheila Dalton - she's Canadian, too, I used to work with her, and her book has a 4.82 out of 5 rating on Good Reads with 151 ratings!

  3. Can I just use your list? They sound great! What a good way to cheer yourself up. I am trying to play catch up on house cleaning today and it's a nightmare. Hate days like this. Mountains of laundry sucks!

  4. You are not alone when it comes to the new Stephanie Meyers book. Well not completely. I heard she was going to write a sequel but I didn't actually think she would. So that is now added to my TBR list as well as Karsten Knight's Embers and Echoes. A couple I'm looking forward to: Claudia Gray's Balthazar and Keep Holding On by Susane Colasanti also Alyson Noel's new Soul Seeker series, Fated.

But maybe first I should finish all the books I have on my shelves from this year :)

  5. I should really make a goal for 2012 to read a book or two that is actually published in 2012. I rarely ever do that.

I don't think I'll be adding anything by Ms. Meier to my list, however.

  6. That's a great list. I didn't know The Host had a sequeal. I liked it, so I will have to check The Soul out. Now I have to go to Goodreads and make my own list.

    Glad you got your power.

  7. @Sarah - I feel your pain.. I try to use the library as much as possible, and then I have a couple of friends who are avid readers as well, we share our books, it works out well for new releases that we really want to read.

@Susan- thanks lady, I will have to check out all those books... YAY!

@Abby- go for it.... I actually went and looked at this year's releases and realized there are about 30 more books I want to read... I'm in so much trouble :)

@Theresa- I'll look up the ones you mentioned.. oh boy... loving books this much can definitely be problematic, LOL

@Karen- you are funny.... you know I read the Twilight series and I really enjoyed it.. but looking back now, they kinda feel soap operaish..., but The Host was definitely very different from Twilight.. although now I'm thinking I might want to reread it and see if it still has the same appeal :)

@Jenny - I love Goodreads... I like reading their reviews and then clicking on the to be read button.. LOL

  8. Oh where to begin with the book list! Like you I'm excited for Lauren Oliver's next book and Veronica Roth's next installment, and drooling for Clockwork Prince (Team Will).

I also can't wait for Fever by Lauren DeStefano (by far my favorite dystopian series - second only to The Hunger Games :)). And also for This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers. Her writing blows me away.

    Happy reading!!
