Once there was this house....

Happy Friday all!.. Today, I'm sharing a little short piece that I wrote for my CP Jenny's weekly inspiration Friday... well for this week she had this awesome picture as inspiration.

I'm havign so much fun with her Friday posts because it gets me writing something else besides my WIP......and I just have to say that this story was NOT the story I had set out to write... I'm not sure that this is to be honest, besides creepy, LOL

Once upon a time, a young Witch lived in a beautiful house. She had been born in that house and she would die in that house, just like her mother, and her grandmother, and her grandmother's mother.

The Witch loved her house, and not because of how beautiful it was, though she loved that too, but because the house was her only friend. It whispered and sang to her, and played games-- her favorite was when the house would hide things for her to find.

But there were also the times when the house would let the night creatures into her bedroom while she slept. On those nights, she wished the house and the creatures would leave her alone. The house would whisper that they were just playing games with her. But the little Witch didn't like the of games that left her marked with scratches and burns, or the nightmares that tortured her for days afterwards.

As the Witch grew and began to venture outside her beautiful house, she noticed people avoided looking at her. Especially boys. Disgust smeared in their faces. She asked the house why they hated her. Because you are so ugly, the house said.

Day after day, the Witch sat by the window, watching all the pretty girls walk up and down the street holding hands with their boyfriends.. and eventually their husbands.

"House, I'd very much like to have a husband," she told the house one lonely afternoon.

You are too ugly.

The Witch threw herself into her bed and cried.

But, there is something we can do, the house sang to her.

The Witch sat up. "What? How?"

I can give you my beauty and take your ugly.

The Witch gasped. Oh, to be as beautiful as her house. You will go out into the world and find a husband. And when you do, you'll return to live here, with me.

"Alright," the Witch agreed.

But at night, you have to give your husband to me.

"What do you mean?" The ugly Witch asked, uneasiness poking at her insides.

Just that. I will take your ugly and make you so beautiful all the handsome boys from near and far will want to marry you. You will pick the most handsome of them all, you will marry him, and you will come back to me. You can do all the things other beautiful girls do with their husbands during the day. But at night he will be mine.

The Witch considered it for a minute. Maybe two.

Thoughts of the night creatures and the nightmares surfaced. She pushed them back down with images of walks with her lovely husband, sun warming her beautiful skin; waving at the other couples, knowing all the other wives envied her. "Okay. You can have my husband at night."

And so it happened. The next morning the Witch woke up beautiful. She was so enamored with herself, she barely noticed the ugliness around her. The house sent her on her way to find a husband.

It wasn't long before the Witch was back.

When she arrived with her husband, he looked around in horror at the place his beautiful wife called home. "Don't you worry, my love." She eased him in. "We are going to be the happiest couple in the world."

As they stepped into their home, the windows rattled, the doors creaked, and the walls shuddered. Oh, you have done well my little Witch, he is the most handsome husband I have ever had.

  6. I love it! Very well-written, I like the fairy-tale style. And such a delightfully creepy ending. On one hand I'd like to know what happened to the husband(s) and on the other hand I don't.
