For todays post I have a winner and my Book of the Month. Let's start with the winner of "My Life as a White Trash Zombie" by Diana Rowland......
Erin
Erin I'll email to get an address from you
and now, for the book of the month! I read so many awesome books, that I'm having a really hard time picking my favorite, you guys. Here's what I got lost in...
"Cinder" by Marissa Meyer
"Matched" by Ally Condie
"Under the Never Sky" by Veronica Ross
"Shiver" by Maggie Stiefvater
"Anna Dressed in Blood" by Kendare Blake
"Variant" by Robinson Wells
Seriously, how am I supposed to pick just one? they were all awesome, but I'm really torn between "Cinder" and "Anna Dressed in Blood" for my favorites. So I'm going to tell you to go READ BOTH!
But, I will pick ONE. Because, you know, that's the point of this whole deal.... even though I loved Cinder- come on, a cyborg Cinderella? freaking awesome- my pick for Book of the Month is....

from Goodreads:
Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until his gruesome murder by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. Together they follow legends and local lore, trying to keep up with the murderous dead—keeping pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
When they arrive in a new town in search of a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas doesn't expect anything outside of the ordinary: move, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, but now stained red and dripping blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
You guys! This book has everything I love in a story. Cool protagonist... and Blake did an awesome job at writing from a male POV..... it's hard writing from the opposite sex, and male protagonists often end up sounding like girls... but not here. Blake totally pulled it off.
And the book was just the right amount of creepy! I love creepy! there were ghosts (obviously) and curses and blood... I actually feared having nightmares one night.. I didn't, thankfully!
Have you read this one? what did you think? If you haven't you really should. This book was super awesome!
I read this one last year and I really enjoyed it. I loved the creepiness and the gore was just right. That first scene in the house with Anna? Amazing.
ReplyDeleteI know! you are so right, it was just the right amount of creepy and gore. I can't wait for the sequel, there will be a sequel, right?
DeleteI haven't read this one, but it sounds like I must!
ReplyDeleteCristina, if you're taking about me, then I'm so happy, excited, that I can't stand it. But if you're not, it's ok and I will return again and again so I can win another. You're so great to give books away. I love free books.

I haven't read this one. And I'm in a reading funk. I need something good. LOL.
ReplyDeleteThis book was a good read. I did have weird dreams while reading it, but that's because it sucked me in.
ReplyDeleteWow--you read so many books this month!! Must have been really hard to choose because I heard good things about all the books you read. I haven't read Anna Dressed In Blood...it kind of sounds *too* creepy for me, lol. Is it really that creepy? I usually love the books you recommend so perhaps I'll have to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Erin!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm glad you reviewed this book! Its one I haven't read yet, but want to. Sounds so cool!
This sounds like something totally up my alley! (That is a wierd and sort of dirty-sounding saying). I have to get my hands on it. (That sounds dirty too:) What's wrong with me today?
ReplyDeleteCinder, Matched, and Variant are all currently on my shelf, waiting to be read. I'm glad you enjoyed them! I'm behind on my reading, but I'm excited to get started again.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I haven't read Anna Dressed in Blood because, as much as I love the awesome book cover, I'm such a pathetic scaredy cat. I'm glad you enjoyed it though. Every time I read the premise for this story, I get the shivers.
ReplyDeletethis book must be really awesome :)
