a little kookiness while writing

When I write a story I need to have a clear image of what my main character looks like. And everyday I thank the Google Gods for the trillion images out there, for I love to waste hours away searching for that perfect picture that captures who my imaginary friends are.

But I know that for some... music is what brings inspiration. Do you listen to music while you write?

Sometimes I do.... but I've never had a playlist for my stories... until last week... when Pandora gifted me with the PERFECT song for my girl and her love interest....

... there I was, happily writing, when this song came up........

and people, I don't mean to sound like a total DORK.. though I'm about to... it was freaking magical!!!!

Oh, I don't know what it is about this song.. but every time I hear it, Kizzy and Finn become so alive that one of two things happen.....

a) the words flow freely onto the page... and here's where that repeat button comes in handy!

or

b) I have to stop whatever I'm doing and take deep slow breaths because there's this.. ache in my heart... and I'm pretty sure it doesn't belong to me... it's like I can feel what they're feeling for each other (I told you, monumental dorkiness here) and all I can do is sit and listen and feel!

hello? are you guys still with me? or have you run off afraid kookiness it's catchy?

But seriously, I'm not sure there's anything I love more (not counting the family. Obviously!) than this... these feelings... these people... oh do I love my people ;)

So tell me.... what inspires you? is there a particular song? Share. I'd love to listen.

  1. I used to love writing to music, but now, it distracts me. It's quite sad because it's nice to have some sort of company - even if it's just the radio. Now, I need silence. :(

    1. If I had silence I'd love it! LOL but instead I have two loud little monsters running around, so music helps me block them out :)

  4. Sometimes I hear a song and get a story idea from it, whether it's a song with lyrics or instrumental. Instrumental music is so amazing for stirring up images and scenes in my mind. Love it! I don't always listen to music while I write, though. It depends on my mood at the time!

    Happy writing, Cristina!!

  5. Ahh, I love, love that song!! Coldplay is amazing. And I totally know what you mean about getting that "feeling" when your characters feel so real. I listen to music when I write...but you already knew that :)

Also, you've been tagged for the Lucky 7 Meme! If you'd like to play along, you can find the info in my blog post: http://fromimaginationtoink.blogspot.com/2012/03/lucky-7-meme.html

  6. I love that song! And girl, if you get inspired, let the writing go! Just get it out and type away. I listened to a song nonstop for about 2 and a half hours the other day because it helped me out with my wip. Music is a blessing in the life of a writer. :)

  7. Music is a wonderful way to be inspired. I've been listening to it more and more as I write YA. I need it for the teen angst. : )

    1. I agree. And music and teens just go together.. so it's the perfect combo!

  8. I told you the song I put on repeat. This House. I listened to it OVER, and OVER. I found a song yesterday by Snow Partol that I think might be Logan and Piper's song. I'm also pondering making them older. ;0)

    1. oh Snow Patrol is on my list as well or songs I listen to while writing... are you.. are you saying you're going to make it YA instead of MG???? I'm thinking that you just need to send me pages as you write them.. I won't even critique, I just want to read ;)

  9. Oh I love that song! Good choice. I have several songs I'll put on repeat when I need help to get going. Eventually the writing takes over and I quit hearing the music.

  12. I love music. I love the things it makes me feel. That said, I've never found 'the' song for any of my stories. I'm envious. If that's dorkiness, I want some :-)
